Car Nicobar, April 29: A 26 yrs old mother of 3 children was admitted with severe pain in abdomen in critical condition at BJR Hospital on early morning of April 25, 2023. Her BP was not recordable and pulse was feeble. The patient was immediately resuscitated by insertion of Central line and rapid fluid infusion by Dr. Bharat GR, Surgeon. After relevant investigations, the patient was diagnosed to be case of Ruptured Ectopic Pregnancy in Shock by Dr. Anne Aaryani, Gynaecologist.The Anaesthetist posted at BJR Hospital was on leave and the referral through Helicopter was not possible due to unstable condition of the patient.The case was discussed immediately with DHS and Anaesthetist of GBPH, Port Blair. In view of saving the life of the patient, the critical decision to conduct the life saving emergency surgery, under conscious sedation at BJR Hospital Car Nicobar was taken up by the team of Doctors consisting of Medical Superintendent, Gynaecologist, Surgeon and duty Doctors.
Under the conscious sedation administered by the Surgeon, the patient underwent Emergency Laparotomy and the right ruptured fallopian tube was removed (salpingectomy) by the Gynaecologist. About 3 litres of blood was evacuated from the abdomen and 6 units of blood were transfused intra-operatively.The surgery was successful and patient is recovering well.
