Port Blair, May 07: Residents of some parts of Port Blair city are facing a severe water crisis as they are receiving water supply once a week despite promises made by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to supply water once in 3 days with effect from 09.03.2023. The situation has left many residents in panic as they struggle to get access to basic amenities.
It is sad that when the Administration has officially promised to issue fresh water to public once every three days, in reality, many parts of the city are getting water once a week. For instance, residents of the New Pahar Gaon area had to wait for seven long days before water was released yesterday, that too at night hours without any schedule. PBMC sources told residents of New Pahargaon that water will be issued only after seven days in the area as there is no water reaching the PBMC water tank.
This disparity between the promises made on paper and the ground reality is creating panic among the public, and the administration must address this issue immediately. The first step that the administration should take is to establish a control center to take calls from the public and note down how many days they have been without water in the pipeline. This should be immediately attended to, and water should be supplied to that area. If the water cannot be supplied through the pipeline, then water tankers should be sent to the region to address the issue.
Water is a basic necessity, and the administration must realize that without water, people cannot survive or lead a normal life. Supplying water should be the top priority for the administration, and they must take immediate steps to address this problem.
