Port Blair, May 08: The non-functioning of BSNL mobile signal towers during electric power cuts in the regions of Billiground, Nimbudera, Basantipur, and Swadeshnagar is causing severe problems for the general public, especially when it comes to internet connectivity. The banks in these areas, namely the State Bank of India, Billiground Branch, and the Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Bank Ltd Billiground Branch, are also facing issues due to the complete digitalization of their services, which rely on BSNL’s internet connectivity.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the Pradhan of Harinagar Gram Panchayat, Mr. Manojit Halder said that the poor backup of battery and the unavailability of generator sets at BSNL towers at Billiground and Nimbudera are causing the signal towers to fail during power cuts. Furthermore, the generator set of the Swadeshnagar BSNL office is also under repair, which is exacerbating the situation.
He said that mobile networks have become a lifeline for people in today’s world, and the non-functioning of signal towers is causing undue stress and inconvenience to the general public. They are unable to make important calls, send messages or access the internet during power cuts, which are a common occurrence in the area.
In light of this issue, the Chief General Manager of A & N Islands Telecom Circle (BSNL), Port Blair, has been urged by the Pradhan of Harinagar Gram Panchayat to take immediate action to rectify the situation.
He also requested that the battery backup of the signal towers is improved, and generator sets are made available at Billiground, Nimbudera, and Basantipur. As the generator set at Swadeshnagar is under repair, speedy resolution of the issue is necessary to alleviate the problems faced by the people of the area.
