Government serious about social security of women and women empowerment: Kuldeep

Port Blair, June 09: Under the Chairmanship of Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President PCC, the District Mahila Congress of Diglipur organised “Mahila Congress Conference” today at Diglipur Multipurpose Hall which was attended by more than 3000 people of Diglipur.

In his inaugural speech Sharma mentioned about of many welfare schemes introduced for the betterment and upliftment of women in India by the UPA Government. Sharma stated that UPA government from its very inception is taking full care for the social security of the women and women empowerment. Sharma has also briefed about the National Rural Employment Guarantee Bill; National Rural Health Mission; Prarambhik Shiksha Kosh/ Sarva shiksha Abhiyan; Domestic Violence Act; National Tribal Policy; Bharat Nirman; National Urban Renewal Mission; Right To Information Act and Right To Education Act, which are the few achievements of the UPA Government.

He also detailed about some of the achievements of the Congress Party for the betterment and upliftment of the people of these islands which includes introduction of enhanced pension schemes to the widow, handicapped and elderly persons, enhancements of the honorarium of Anganwari workers, introduction of 2nd shift of JNRM college, introduction of free bus passes to the students of these islands, withdrawal of exorbitant ferry charges, introduction of enhanced stipend to the college lecturers, regularisation of services of many DRMs in various departments etc etc.

He has also spoken about the issues taken before the AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Union Home Minister Sushil Kr Shinde for the betterment of the people and the islands. Shanta Singh, State President Mahila Congress, Abala Samaddar, ZPA, Madhuri Giri, ZPA (N&M) Ratna Kannan, Chairperson Social welfare Board, Nirmal Biswas Working President, Block Congress, Narayan Ch Devnath, President, Block Congress, Sushila Mandal,Pradhan, Sudhir Biswas, Nagan Halder were there to address the gathering besides many other dignitaries who have graced the occasion.
