Port Blair, Nov 25: The Andaman and Nicobar Command has been participating in the biannual Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) with the Royal Thai Navy for over a decade. The objectives of the INDO-THAI CORPAT are to ensure effective implementation of ‘United Nations Conventions on Laws of the sea (UNCLOS 1982) which specify regulations regarding protection and conservation of natural resources of both countries, conservation of the marine environment, prevention and suppression of illegal fishing activities, drug trafficking and piracy, exchange of information in smuggling and illegal immigration and conduct of search and rescue operations at sea.
23rd Cycle of INDO-THAI CORPAT between the two navies was conducted from 17 to 25 Nov 16. Indian Naval Ship Karmuk and Royal Thailand Navy Ship HTMS Longlom along with Dornier aircraft from both countries participate in the CORPAT. The sea phase of the exercise took place from 18 to 21 Nov 16 in the Andaman Sea along India-Thailand International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
The closing ceremony of the CORPAT was held at Phuket (Thailand) from 22 to 25 Nov 16. The Indian contingent in the closing ceremony was led by Commodore Girish K Garg, Naval Component Commander of Andaman and Nicobar Command.
