165 Shops Evicted from Bharatpur and Laxmanpur Sunset Beach in Shaheed Dweep; Plan to a new shopping complex for shop owners

March 2, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

John Wilbert & Vikramaditya
Port Blair, Mar 02: In a move to improve the look of the beach and accommodate the increasing tourist footfall in Shaheed Dweep islands, the Andaman Administration conducted an eviction drive on March 01, 2023. Over 165 shops were evicted from Bharatpur beach and Laxmanpur sunset beach.
Last month, the Administration had reportedly intimated all shop owners and representatives of Gram Panchayat Neil islands about the eviction plan and the new plans for construction of a new shopping complex. As per plan the evicted shops will be shifted to the new shopping complex located near the beach area. Each family whose shop was evicted will be provided with a shop room in the new complex.
The eviction drive began in the morning at Bharatpur beach where around 100 shops were evicted. Later in the day, the same drive was carried out at Laxmanpur Sunset point beach where around 65 shops were evicted in the presence of Azharuddin Zainuddin Quasi, SDM south Andaman.
Mr. Kajal Das, Mondal President BJP, informed Andaman Sheekha that in 2017, the Andaman administration had allotted land near the beach of Bharatpur and Laxmanpur beach, but due to some reason, the plan was stopped. Recently, officers of the Administration contacted shopkeepers and Panchayat members and explained the plan, promising to provide all evicted shopkeepers with shops in the new shopping complex, to which all agreed.
Mrs. Pinki Das, Pradhan Gram Panchayat Shaheed Dweep, requested the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to complete the construction of the shopping complex as soon as possible. Since the eviction drive, around 165 families, all shopkeepers, have lost their source of income. The completion of the new shopping complex will hopefully minimize the impact of the eviction on the shopkeepers’ livelihoods.

Laxmi Ganeshan ,Smti.Amar Devi,Smti.Mangayar Karasi and Smti. Sarika were also present.A large number of women participated in this event and Smti. Vanisha Rajan, PGT , Govt.Model Sr. Sec. School enlightened the gathering on this year’s International Women’s Day theme “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”. In this program 21 women were felicitated with mementos by the chief guest and other dignitaries for their outstanding performance.
While addressing the crowd Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma in his speech said that “Our islands have faced various challenges over the years when it comes to ensuring women empowerment and employment and it still continues. So in the year 2012 when I joined the Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union, Teylorabad as a chairman I had made up my mind that I need to start up Skill Development Courses for the youths and especially the women of our islands that would enable them towards a better and secure way of living on their own. I knew it would be difficult for The youths & women seeking such training courses coming from not so financially stable backgrounds to pay huge amounts for doing these courses and with the responsibilities of running a family & taking care of their children going to the mainland for such courses was out of the question. So keeping all these in mind in 2012 I started up with the first batch of Beautician Training courses, Tailoring & Fashion Designing Courses and Computer Courses for all the youths & women with a nominal & affordable fee here at Port Blair.
As I stand here today to felicitate each one of you little did I know back then that little dream of mine that I planted 10 years ago would become such a huge tree of success. It brings me sheer joy to inform that an exceptional 3800 plus girls & women have completed their training in Tailoring and Fashion Design courses, more than 1200 girls & women have successfully done their Beautician Course Training, and about more than 1000 Ladies and Youth have gained benefit with their successful completion of Computer Course training.
The beauty of this journey that started all those years ago with just a thought of empowering our youth & women, to build up their potentials is not just how many have completed these courses but the fact that most of them have opened up their own ventures; their own beauty parlours & boutiques, tailoring shops, empowering other youths & women providing them employment and making an income to ensure an improved & standard quality of living for themselves & their families. What makes me happier today is recognising & felicitating such strong, accomplished, and independent women who are the examples of real women empowerment and are the true inspiration to other youths & women encouraging them to come forward and take up such courses and empower themselves and everyone around them and create a better life on their own.”
All the women were thankful to the Member of Parliament for their success and praised him for providing them with such an exclusive platform. They also took the stand to share their journey to success while encouraging the women present at the event to do the same and take benefit of the courses provided at ANSCU. Mr.Suresh Babu , Principal ANSCU welcomed the gathering and he highlighted the activities of the union and the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Surender Singh,NCUI .

Port Blair, Mar 02: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder seeks the Administration in resolving the difficulties being faced by the inpatients in the GB Pant Hospital.
In his letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Mr. Halder said that the patients’ Ward in GB Pant Hospital are being inappropriately maintained as deteriorated Conditions and Unhealthy hygiene have been observed in several wards during the visit.
He stated that the Govt. GB Pant Hospital has No proper basic treatment facilities like Ventilation System, Exhaust Fans, Wheelchair for Handicapped patients and other necessary equipment which are either not functioning or operated in the Hospital.
He also pointed towards the Govt. Ayush Hospital in which the treatment of Physiotherapy was not accomplishing well as the staff is least in numbers whereas maximum staff is needed to be appointed in serving the patients in the Hospital.
He alleged that the Blood Testing Check-up’s and other Basic Treatments were not to be considered to be provided at the GB Pant Hospital rather than that the patients are advised by the practitioner to fulfil their required treatment in the Private Hospitals.
He also mentioned that In GB pant Hospital, Private attendants are appointed with a Charge rate of Rs. 1000-2000 per Patient a day which creates a huge indiscrimination towards the patients through which they are losing their faith and trust towards the Govt. Hospitals.
He further requested the Administration to kindly look in this regard as it is the most important issue to be discussed and more quickly to be resolved.
