North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad: Race to become next Adhyaksh of N&M ZP continues

March 27, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Vikramaditya, Trinath& John Wilbert
Port Blair, Mar 27: With just a few days left until the North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad’s Adhyaksh Election, the political landscape in the region is heating up. The Congress party is determined to retain its majority in the Zilla Parishad, which recently had 9 members, BJP had 7 and there were two independent members. As on today, Congress has 8 members, BJP has 9 members and there is one independent candidate.
However, the BJP seems to have gained an upper hand due to internal disputes within the Congress party.
According to sources, the Congress party has been struggling to maintain unity among its members, with several Zilla Parishad members resigning from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party. Today as many as eight Zilla Parishad members of INC have resigned from primary membership.
The resignations include Mrs. Elizabeth Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha, North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Pradip Das Zilla Parishad member Subhash Gram Constitution, Mr. Ashok Howlader ZPM, Long Island, Mr. Mahadeb Gain ZPM, Radhanagar, Mr. Tapas Roy ZPM Rangat, Ms. Sujata Dey ZPM Urmilapur, Mr. Alagerswamy ZPM Baratang, and Mr. Niranjan Hawaldar ZPM Diglipur.
The resignations are seen as a major setback for the Congress party’s chances in the upcoming election. Adding to this, on last Saturday, Basanti Devi, ZP member PahalgaonMayabunder resigned from the INC and joined the BJP, giving BJP a major boost. Moreover, yesterday, Mr. Subrata Basu ZPM Kadamtala, who was an independent candidate, also joined the BJP party.
On the other hand, the BJP seems to have made better strategic moves, taking advantage of the internal conflicts within the Congress party. The BJP’s successful inductees have further strengthened its chances of winning the North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad election.
The upcoming election is expected to be a fierce battle between the Congress and the BJP. The Congress party, despite facing several setbacks, is still determined to retain its majority in the Zilla Parishad.
But as it is said, It ain’t over till the fat lady sings. Congress party will still try its best as in BJP some members are said to be upset over one new BJP member, who is said to be in the race to become next Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh of N & M Andaman.
It has been learnt that the president of ANTCC, Mr. Rangalal Halder will be visiting North and Middle Andaman soon. “This is an internal issue of our party and we have not accepted the resignation letters of eight members yet. One Member has already joined BJP, we will talk to others. My visit is still due. Today MP Sahab visited Mayabunder and met with the Zilla Parishad members and now I will go and meet them,” Mr. Rangalal Halder, the president of ANTCC told Andaman Sheekha Daily Today.

Katchal Island Residents suffer as BSNL Mobile Network fails for Four Days

March 27, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

John Wilbert &Vikramaditya
Port Blair, March 27: The residents of Katchal Island have been facing network issues with the BSNL mobile network for the past four days, causing inconvenience and distress to the people on the Island. Katchal residents alleged that due to the frequent network fluctuations, they were unable to make calls even in emergencies related to health issues or other urgent matters.
According to reports, the lack of connectivity has left residents and government servants situated on the island unable to contact their family members, relatives, and friends outside the island or in mainland India. Mr. GT. Lawrence, General Secretary of Katchal Settler’s Welfare Association, stated that people faced many problems due to the network problem, and despite complaining, the BSNL technical team was unable to rectify the issue, and the connection remains unstable.
In response to the matter, a senior officer of BSNL informed Andaman Sheekha that the BSNL is aware of the issue and has been working on fixing the problem for the last four days. The officer stated that Katchal Island is directly connected to a satellite connection, and four days ago, due to some technical problems, the connection broke with the tower, and mobile connections stopped working. Only FTTH was working on the islands, and from this evening, the connection has been restored.
The officer further explained that an alternate connection has been built up with Vikash Nagar Nancowrie, and once the connection is completed, an alternate connection will also be available in case of any further interruption. The team is working on improving the connection for better connectivity. The officer assured the public that once the connection is fixed, the problem will be resolved in no time.

March 27, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Port Blair, Mar 27: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to install comfortable seats in all ATR buses for the convenience of the general public.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament said that the State Transport Service (STS) has been using ordinary seats in most of these ATR buses, which makes long-distance travel very uncomfortable for the passengers, especially for patients, who use STS buses to reach Mayabunder District Hospital, CHC Rangat or G B Pant Hospital Port Blair for their treatment from different areas of North and Middle Andaman.

He pointed out that according to most of the ATR commuters, the seats in STS ATR buses are hard and uncomfortable.

The Member of Parliament mentioned that due to the poor condition of Andaman Trunk Road (NH4), which is still under construction in most of the patches, the journey in STS ATR buses becomes more painful for the public.

Hence he requested the Chief Secretary to intervene in this matter and issue necessary directions to the State Transport Service (STS) to install comfortable seats in all ATR buses for the convenience of the general public.
