Family Members of patient, referred under Ayushman Bharat Scheme, allege Negligence by Chennai Hospital

April 11, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

John Wilbert &Vikramaditya
Port Blair, Apr 11: Family members of a patient from Andaman and Nicobar Islands have made serious allegations against Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai for negligence in admitting the critical patient in ICU, even after conducting many tests.
The patient was referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for advanced treatment under the Ayushman Bharat PMJAY scheme, but the hospital staff reportedly showed negligence in admitting patients, forcing ICU patients to wait for nearly 12 hours in the hospital campus.
The Government of India has been actively encouraging more private hospitals to join the Ayushman Bharat PMJAY scheme to provide better treatment to beneficiaries. However, hospitals like Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai have been sidelining patients who come under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, showing less interest in providing treatment, the family alleged.
Seeing things going out of hand, Mr. Dulal Nandi’s family reportedly contacted Mr. Alager Swamy, former Up-Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad N & M Andaman, who was also present in Chennai, and requested him to visit Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital Chennai for help. The family was facing a language barrier.
“I went to the hospital to help them. I requested the hospital authorities to admit him, but they refused and asked us to wait until the neuro doctor arrived. Even after six different doctors checked the patient, they refused to admit him until the neuro doctor arrived, showing clear negligence on ICU patients who came under the Ayushman Bharat scheme from far off place like Andaman,” said former Up-Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad N & M Andaman Mr. Alager Swamy.
Mr. Subrata Nandi, son of the patient Dulal Nandi, informed that his father suffered a stroke recently and was admitted to GB Pant Hospital on March 30th. Later, he was referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for advanced treatment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The patient and his family members reached Chennai on Saturday, April 8th, but the ambulance did not arrive, and they had to hire a private cab to reach the hospital. However, instead of admitting the patient, a staff member advised them to wait until the neuro doctor arrived. After waiting for nearly 12 hours, the family decided to move to another hospital as the patient’s condition was deteriorating. Yesterday morning the family took the patient to Kolkata at their own risk.
When contacted a senior officer of the Health Department said that he came to know about this incident and he assured to conduct an inquiry if any complaint letter is received. This is not the first time when patients were harassed by Hospitals in Mainland India for money. Patients are now demanding stringent action against hospitals in mainland who are harassing patients of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, who are referred under Ayushman Bharat PMJAY scheme.

Member of Parliament requests to enhance honorarium for an amount of Rs.1,500/- Per Lecture to the maximum of Rs. 50,000/- to all Guest Lecturers

April 11, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Port Blair, Apr 11: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has taken up the matter the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration regarding enhancement of honorarium for an amount of Rs.1,500/- per Lecture to the maximum of Rs. 50,000/- to all Guest Lecturers working under Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

During a meeting with the Chief Secretary this morning, the Member of Parliament mentioned that he has got representations from the guest lecturers engaged in various colleges functioning under Andaman and Nicobar Administration for taking up the matter with the authorities concerned for payment of Rs 1500/- per lecture to the maximum of Rs 50,000/- which is extended only to those guest lecturers who possess pre requisite qualification of UGC regulations.

“Such guest faculties having less qualification are around 90 constituting nearly 85% of the total Guest lecturers engaged in JNRM, ANCOL, MGGC and TGCE performing work similar to regular lecturers,” he mentioned.

The Member of Parliament informed the Chief Secretary that most of them are engaged since 2004 and were working on meager monthly honorarium of Rs. 5000/- which was enhanced during the year 2009 to Rs. 250/- Per Lecture subject to the maximum of 10,000/- for the period upto March 2013. During 2013, the enhancement of honorarium to the Guest Lecturers was done for an amount of Rs.1,000/- Per Lecture subject to the maximum of Rs.25,000/- per month for UGC qualified candidates. However the matter for payment of equal honorarium to qualified and less qualified guest lecturers was taken up with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and the administration was gracious enough to confer same honorarium of Rs.1,000/- Per Lecture subject to the maximum of Rs.25,000/- per month to both UGC qualified and less qualified guest lecturers.

He added that now the Andaman and Nicobar Administration since December 2022 has enhanced the honorarium to Rs 1500/- per lecture subject to a maximum of Rs 50,000/- per month for only UGC qualified lectures which has caused pain to left out lecturers who are also discharging duties with sincerity like other guest lecturers meeting to the teaching requirements at all these 4 (four) Government colleges.

“The enhancement in honorarium to Rs.1, 500/- per Lecture to the maximum of Rs.50,000/- for all the Guest Lecturers working under A & N Administration including these 90 odd long serving guest lecturers though having less qualification than required by the UGC will considerably improve the financial condition and will motivate them to discharge their duty with much dedication and sincerity,” the Member of Parliament said.

Hence he requested to enhance honorarium to Rs.1500/- per lecturer to maximum of Rs.50,000/- per month for all guest lecturers working in the colleges of Andaman & Nicobar Administration at par with UGC qualified guest lecturers.
