Port Blair, Apr 26: A CBI Team from Chennai reached Deputy Commissioner Office South Andaman on 24th April 2023 to investigate some case related to issue of Bar Licenses and Quarry Allotments.
According to reports the investigation continued even today and the CBI team consisted of atleast three officers from Chennai, headed by a DySP ranked officer, have been checking all documents related to issue of Bar Licenses and quarry allotment since 2018.
As per details, for this task few Junior Engineers of APWD and a few staffs from Secretariat have also been engaged by the CBI team. As per confirmed sources no one from CBI’s local unit are involved in this investigation. Technically the entire investigation does not look like a ‘Raid’ but only an ‘Investigation’.
As per sources, till now it is not clear whether the team checked any file related to Brand registration of liquors.

Member of Parliament demands to assign staffs from DRC Chennai and DRC Kolkata to attend and assist patients, referred to Kolkata and Chennai under Ayushman Bharat Scheme from ANI
Port Blair, Apr 26: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to assign staffs from DRC Chennai and DRC Kolkata to attend patients from Andaman and Nicobar Islands in Mainland Hospital, so that patients can get benefit and right treatment, under the Government of India’s flagship programme, Ayushman Bharat. “If necessary some more staffs may be posted to DRC Chennai and DRC Kolkata to handle these cases,” he added.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor the Member of Parliament mentioned that a large number of patients have been sent to different hospitals in Mainland India for specialized treatment under Ayushman Bharat Scheme from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, but a lot of patients among them have informed him that due to various issues, they are facing extreme difficulties in getting treatment in mainland hospitals.
He added that as per the grievances put forward by patients, Islanders referred to Mainland India under Ayushman Bharat scheme from Andaman and Nicobar Islands face the following problem.
1) Language Problem: Patients from Andaman and Nicobar Islands are mostly transferred to either Kolkata or Chennai and often Islanders from remote Islands fail to communicate in Tamil, Bengal or English, which leads to huge confusion.
2) Delay in Admission : It is often seen that in some cases patients referred to Mainland India under Ayushman Bharat scheme from Andaman and Nicobar Islands are admitted very late in Mainland Hospital, putting additional burden on them for lodging and boarding in Mainland India.
3) Failing to meet the right doctors: Often patients could not meet the right doctors or convey their problems properly due to various reasons, which results in confusion.
4) Documentation Issues: Many patients from remote Islands are not very acquainted with official documentation works in English and filling forms.
Regional Head, BSI presents Book on Mangrove of India to Chief Secretary
Port Blair, Apr 26: Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Regional Head, Botanical Survey India, Port Blair on 26.04.2023 presented a book published by Botanical Survey of India titled “Mangroves of India – A Pictorial Field Guide’, broucher and reusable eco-friendly drinking straws to the Chief Secretary, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, A & N Administration. The Chief Secretary was also briefed about the activities and achievements of BSI in these Islands.
Late R.V Reddy’s mortal remains brought to Gandhi Bhawan: Congress leaders Pay Tribute
Port Blair, Apr 26: Congress workers of Port Blair jostled to have a glimpse of their senior party leader late. Mr. R.V Reddy as his body was brought to the party headquarters on Wednesday morning at 11:30 am.
Mr. R.V Reddy passed away on Tuesday morning at Chennai following a heart attack. He has served the Congress Party through various posts such as State President Youth Congress, District President, and AICC Member and so on.
Several top Congress leaders, including ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder, ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker, AICC Minority Department Incharge for A&N Islands Mr. Jani Javid, AICC Member Mrs. Shanta Laxman Singh and several others paid their last respects to Late. Mr. R.V Reddy at Gandhi Bhawan.
The Congress leader offered floral tributes and observed 2 minute silence in respect of their departed leader.
Thereafter, the mortal remains of Late. R.V Reddy was taken to Junglighat Burning Ghat and consigned to flames.
World Book Day by INTACH Andaman and Nicobar Chapter at Dignabad Govt. Middle School
Port Blair, Apr 26: About 37 students participated in a painting session organized by INTACH on World Book Day. The session was held at Govt. Middle School, Dignabad.
The children were shown a compendium of geoheritage sites of the islands by Samhita Veda Acharya, Convenor, INTACH A & N Chapter. The children also had an interactive session with Ebi Mathew and Sibi Mathew, Volunteers of INTACH. The children were fascinated with marine life depicted in the books that were donated by INTACH.
The Andaman and Nicobar Chapter of INTACH have expressed gratitude to Mr. Rizwan, Music Teacher and Baby Nazarana, Principal Govt. Middle School, Dignabad for their support in conducting the camp.
Andaman Moplah Service Organization (AMSO) to organise a Grand 100 Years culmination event Jashn-e-Shatabdi
Port Blair, Apr 26: The Andaman Moplah Service Organization (AMSO) is organizing a Grand 100 Years culmination event Jashn-e-Shatabdi on 29th April, 2023 at Stewart Gunj stadium. The programme shall commence at 6 AM. The Member of Parliament along with Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman; Superintendent of Police (District), Ex-Member of Parliament and many other noted personalities across social and political shall grace the function as Guest. The programme is expected to be attended by a large number of community members.
The programme is being organized as a culmination to the 100 Years celebrations of the existence of the Moplah community in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Awareness of Intellectual Property – ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair
Port Blair, Apr 26: Institute Technology Management Unit, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair conducted an awareness programme of intellectual property on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day. Creativity & Innovation is celebrated by the World Intellectual Property Organization on 26th April, World Intellectual Property Day. Theme of this year was Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity to tap out the innovative potential of women groups for the widest possible range of talents needed to solve the pressing problems facing humanity. During the programme, the experience on ‘’can do’’ attitude of women inventors was shared by five experts viz., Dr. Smitha, G.R. Sr. Scientist, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore on utilization of flower waste into Agarpati, biofuels, bioethanol, pigments; dyes; polyhydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate production, biosurfactants production, sugar syrup and incense sticks; Dr. Laly, S.J., Sr. Scientist, ICAR-CIFT, Cochin on Identification of formalin in fish and fish products where in Consumers can check the fish for adulteration using rapid detection kit “CIF Test”; Dr. T.P. Swarnam, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair on systematic efforts to develop intellectual property, Dr Rajeshwari Shome, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-NIVEDI on systematic thought process that lead to development of ELISA based IPR and commercialization to control brucellosis at national level and Dr. Pooja Bohra, Scientist, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair on processing and value addition of underutilized horticulture crops particularly Garcinia dhanikariensis and andamanica, mango ginger paste and blood fruit and woody pepper. These explorations have given an avenue for commercialization of these IPs and conservation of underutilized crops in these islands. Commercialization is the process of bringing Intellectual Property to the market so that the patented or IPR product can be exploited in return for business profits and growth. The programme was chaired by Dr. E.B.Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI who addressed the gathering that there is always gender equality in possession and exploration of IPs however the number of women scientists is less which will definitely be increased in due course of time. The programme was organized by Dr. T. Sujatha, Sr. Scientist & ITMU i/c. Total number of participants were 63 including scientists, technical and administrative officers.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Arun Kumar De, Sr. Scientist ICAR-CIARI.
