Port Blair, Apr 02: PBMC supplies drinking water to municipal areas. Due to poor monsoon and excessive heat there is acute shortage of water supply from PWD to PBMC. Rains are not expected any time soon. Water is a precious natural resource and cannot be wasted. The general public have been advised to use water carefully and avoid any wastage of water. Overflow of storage tanks should be avoided at all costs. Consumers are to fix leaking pipes and install float valves in water tanks to avoid overflow. Govt. offices, public institutions, commercial establishments and other major consumers of water have to take precautionary measures to preserve water.
PBMC is closely monitoring all tap connections and storage facilities and in case of wastage of water, strict action will be taken such as disconnection of water tap connection. Teams have been constituted by PBMC to constantly monitor and keep a vigil on water wastage. Nehru Yuva Kendra, Port Blair Organizes Blood Donation Camp at Maharashtra Mandal
Port Blair, Apr 02: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Port Blair, in association with Maharashtra Mandal and Andaman Nicobar Blood Donation Association, A&N Islands, organized a voluntary blood donation camp on 1st April 2023. At Auditorium of Maharashtra Mandal. The event aimed to fulfill the constant need for blood in the islands and to provide an adequate supply of blood to those in need.
The camp witnessed 30 units of blood donation by the youths. Mrs. Pramila Kumari, Zilaprishad Member and Ex-Zila Parishad Adhakshya, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Mr. Gorakhnath Patil, President Maharashtra Mandal Port Blair, was the guest of honor. Both the guest spoke on the occasion to motivate the youth to participate regularly in such events to save human lives, which is a noble deed.
Other dignitaries present at the event included Mr. Arvind Patil, Secretary Maharashtra Mandal, Mr. Sanjay Kumar, President A&N Blood Donor Association, Mr. Anshumanman Roy, Secretary AN Blood Donor Association, Mr. Jagjeevan Ram, Retired Deputy Director, NYKS, Dr. Milan Halder, JNRM Lecturer, and Mr. Giresh Kumar, Assistant Director, AN AIDS Control Society. Additionally, Dr. Sunita Patil, Ex-Member, Mr. Shambhu Murthy, Mr. Ravi Kumar, Dr. Sunita Patil, Mr. K Yogeshwar Rao, NYV, and Miss Raat Rani Bai, NYV extended their support to the grand success of the program.
Earlier, Mr. Gopal Ch Biswas of NYK Port Blair coordinated the program, welcomed the guests, and proposed the vote of thanks.
Overall, the event was a great success, and the participation of the youth and support from various organizations is commendable. It is essential to continue such initiatives to maintain an adequate supply of blood for those in need.
CITU Organizes Bike Rally on 2nd April
Port Blair, Apr 02: As part of the campaign for the 5th April, 2023 Mazdoor Kisan Sangharsh Rally in Delhi, CITU Andaman & Nicobar State Committee will organize a Bike Rally from Delanipur to Bambooflat (via Bathubasti, Chouldhari, Ferrargunj, Wimberlygunj) on 2nd April, 2023 (Sunday). The Bike rally will be flagged off at Delanipur junction at 9 a.m.
Leaders and members of various unions functioning at Port Blair and South Andaman areas will participate in the Bike Rally.
Besides the 14-point All India Demands, the local demands like (i) Regularization of services of DRMs (ii) Early implementation of High Court order on 1/30th of pay plus DA to all DRMs (iii) Bonus to all DRMs (iv) EPF and Leave benefits to DRMs, etc. will also be highlighted during the bike rally.
IGNOU celebrates its 36th Convocation
Port Blair, Apr 02: The 36th Convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will be held on Monday, 03rd April, 2023. The main function will be held at IGNOU, HQ, and New Delhi. The President of India, Mrs. Droupadi Murmu, will be the Chief Guest at HQ, New Delhi and deliver the Convocation Address.
At Port Blair Regional Centre, Mr. Neeraj Thakur, IPS, DGP, A & N Islands is the Guest of Honor (GoH) for the Convocation Function and will address the graduating students and distribute the Degrees and Diplomas at Lecture Gallery, JNRM College, Port Blair on 03rd April, 2023 between 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM. At Regional Centre, Port Blair 780 students are eligible to receive various degrees out of which, 354 students are in Master Degree, 298 students are in Bachelor’s Degree, 128 students are in PG Diploma and Diplomas and Certificate programmes.
The students who have paid the convocation fee through online mode and confirmed their participation in the Convocation are advised to be present at the venue at 10.00 am. A communication from the Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Centre, Port Blair said.
